Around ETICS

Who uses ETICS

The ETICS system is used by several projects belonging to the grid community. The ETICS community includes up to 35 projects.

Among the main users, other than the ETICS 2 project itself, are EGEE (Enabling Grids for e-Science) and D4Science (Distributed Collaboratories Infrastructure on Grid Enabled Technology for Science).

EGEE (Enabling Grids for e-Science) uses the ETICS system as the foundation of the build and integration process of the gLite middleware. The EGEE Networking Support team implemented with ETICS system the IPv6 compliance analysis of gLite code and the distributed IPv6 experimental testbed where the IPv6 version of BDII was tested. The EGEE Application Identification and Support team also uses the system to build some of its high-level services, such as GridWay.

D4Science uses ETICS services as its build and integration platform. It has been using ETICS system since 2006 and has now fully standardized its software engineering process on it.

Additionally, as part of initiatives to assist other projects with challenging test-and-build scenarios, ETICS has entered into a working partnership with EDGeS.

EDGeS, an EC-funded project enabling desktop grids for e-Science, presents a very complex platform environment through applications executed on volunteer/donor computers. The success of EDGeS project depends partially on the software quality and reliability of the Desktop Grid-enabled applications. EDGeS must therefore rely on well-established and automated tools in order to achieve this - and this is where ETICS plays a crucial role in offering precisely these services.

ETICS will ease the difficulties encountered for the complex build, deployment, test and maintenance of EDGeS components. The ETICS system, also offering A-QCM certification, could contribute to the successful promotion of EDGeS achievements and solutions towards industrial partners.

With ETICS 2 project, two new communities have started evaluating ETICS for helping them building and testing their applications.

Within the High-Parallel Computing community:

Other projects have shown interest in using ETICS 2, such as StoRM and VDT.

In addition, Resource and License requirements have been collected and analysed from new applications. Consequently several new applications or projects are being integrated into ETICS.
